COVID-19 Updates & Info
September 2020
We are really excited about having all children back in school from September. We have missed them very much. So that school safe for their return, we have made some changes. Please read the information attached carefully and talk to your child about what they can expect.
- Children come back to school on Tuesday 8th September 2020
- Start and finish times will be normal and gates will open at 8.40 am
- The children will be in year or class size pods. The children in each year or class pod will play together at break and playtimes. They will not interact with children from other pods
- Please try and limit contact with other children not in their year or class outside of school
- Children will be shown how we all need to behave: e.g. washing hands; tissues to catch it; bin it; kill it; smiles and waves not high fives and holding hands
- Children will wash hands regularly during the day
- A full range of classroom resources will be available to children and regularly cleaned. Pens/pencils for KS2 children will allocated to each child
- We have two full-time cleaners who will clean frequently-touched areas / toilets etc. during the day
- Each classroom will have a deep clean at the end of the day and shared resources will be cleaned as well
- The school will be ‘deep cleaned’ every Saturday using a special mist
- Obviously, if your child or any member of your family is displaying signs of COVID 19, you will need to keep your child at home and let the school know. If NHS 111 recommends it, you will need to take your child to be tested as soon as possible and let the school know of the result. The child’s class will also remain at school unless the child tests positive. If the result is positive, all members of the pod will need to isolate for 14 days
- Where a staff member tests positive, the class will be sent home and advised to self-isolate for 14 days. Other household members of this wider group do not need to self-isolate unless their child starts to have classic symptoms
- Children who become ill with symptoms of COVID 19 will be isolated in school in a small room by the office and parents will be called immediately. Staff supporting a child with these symptoms will wear PPE
- We would ask that you check your child does not have a temperature every morning before sending them to school
- Apart from the After-School Club and Breakfast Club, there will be no after school clubs until at least after half-term
Many thanks
Adam

NURSERY COVID INFORMATION
Monday 18th January 2021
We received a recent communication from the Government about school nursery classes.
The Government are stating that nursery settings should be open for all children.
Brighton and Hove Local Authority however has advised that with the increase in COVID cases they feel we really shouldn’t be inviting more children into schools.
The number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Brighton & Hove has more than doubled since the current lockdown started on 26 December.
In the seven days up to 8 January (based on data published on 13 January) we had 2244 confirmed new Covid-19 cases in Brighton & Hove. This is:
- a 18% increase per 100,000 residents from the previous week
- equivalent to a weekly rate of new cases of 771 per 100,000 residents
- higher than the rate for England, which was 655 per 100,000 and the South East which was 699 per 100,000
Our local hospitals are also seeing significant increases in the volume of patients with Covid-19 which is putting extra pressure on the NHS. Critical incident declared.
This has put me in a very difficult position. If we do not offer nursery provision to the children within our setting then the Government will remove all our early years funding. If this were to happen we would sadly lose our nursery class forever.
With this in mind I have had to try and work out a way to open nursery. This has put a strain on other bubbles and remote learning within the school but we will be able to offer nursery from next Monday to those families who require nursery provision.
The Prime Minister did state that schools are vectors for transmission of the virus, however they are also asking that we invite nursery children back into class. I have to open the nursery to secure funding but fully understand if you decided not to send your child into the setting. If you choose not to send your children into school this will not affect our funding.
If you wish to send you child to Nursery from week beginning Monday 18th January for their usual hours please contact me at headteacher@moulsecoomb.brighton-hove.sch.uk so we can ensure we have sufficient cover for the class.
Thank you as ever for your continued support.
