Vision
To embed local environmental education, local natural history and local human history into our curriculum along with sustainability, climate change and the wider environment, Allowing our pupils and the wider community to develop a love for the outdoors and learn about and develop skills and understanding of how to address local and global challenges.
Our School environment
One of the things that makes this a special place to learn is firstly our amazing grounds, which allow us to provide unique and high quality learning experiences and activities which go beyond what is required by the National curriculum and are rooted in our love for outdoor learning and our local area. Our grounds offer
- A Neolithic house
- An iron age house
- A medieval house
- A WW2 air raid shelter
- A raingarden
- A world garden
- An orchard and pond
- A forest school area
- A fairy tale forest
- And chickens!
Secondly, our school is situated on the edge of the South downs National Park, allowing us to engage with the parks special qualities and natural areas.
Our Curriculum
Our school’s curriculum is an embodiment of our vision and values. Treating environmental sustainability as a core value leads to all members of our school taking responsibility for its effective integration in our curriculum and beyond into school life. We have put care for and learning in the environment at the heart of the curriculum experience so pupils develop positive attitudes and behaviours towards the environment. They have an acute awareness of living in a unique urban biosphere. Our curriculum sits in the context of a broad and rich environmental education programme for our pupils. It includes learning about the environment (knowledge), learning in the environment (connecting) and learning for the environment (skills and agency).
Working in partnership with
We work closely with local experts: South Downs National Park Education Team, The Our City Our World project, the local community Forest Garden and allotments, Plumpton College @ The One Garden , to really enhance our understanding the environment of the environment that we are at the heart of.
