History
We are Historians
We will inspire pupils to develop wonderment and curiosity about past eras and events throughout the history of Brighton, Sussex, The United Kingdom and of the wider world. By using the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) themes we will build memorable experiences that enhance learning and understanding.
We teach the full National Curriculum for History
We use the themes from the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) which provides themes for every year group from Year 1 – Year 6.
The IPC has been developed to provide support to teachers so that four main aims can be achieved. They are:
To help children learn the subject knowledge, skills and understandings they need to become aware of the world around them
To help children develop the personal skills they need to take an active part in the world throughout their lives
To help children develop an international mindset alongside their awareness of their own nationality
To do each of these in ways which take into account up-to-date research into how children learn and how they can be encouraged to be life-long learners
Our curriculum is bespoke to our context:
In local history we study the Pavilion and the history of Brighton as a holiday resort.
Our Curriculum is a progressive curriculum. Curriculum objectives build across each year group from EYFS to Year 6. All parts of the EYFS curriculum build the ‘foundational skills’ of Humanities, this continues with the National Curriculum objectives through our themes from Year 1 to Year 6.
